New Delhi, March 25: The Assam Special Task Force (STF) has apprehended Sohail Ur Rehman, a student at IIT Assam hailing from Jammu, for additional interrogation, as per a report by The Assam Tribune Newspaper.

This action follows the recent arrest of another student, Tauseef Ali Farooqui from IIT Guwahati, who allegedly expressed support for ISIS on social media.

The STF team, led by Kamrup Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Kumar Pathak, visited Lohit Hostel in IIT Guwahati to interrogate Sohail and gather more information about his potential association with the terrorist organization.

Tauseef Ali Farooqui, meanwhile, remains in police custody after being arrested for his online support of ISIS. The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has disclosed that another student from IIT Guwahati is also under scrutiny by security agencies, indicating concerns about radicalization among intellectual students.

This development comes shortly after the arrest of two ISIS leaders in Dhubri district, highlighting ongoing efforts by authorities to counter terrorist activities in the region.
