Srinagar, Feb 9: Clamping of curfew in Srinagar following hanging of Parliament attack convict Muhammad Afzal Guru at Tihar Jail in New Delhi, caused immense inconvenience to locals and tourists.
Police placed barricades and concertina wires on various roads in the summer capital hampering vehicular and pedestrian movement. Tourists putting up in hotels in tourist hub Boulevard and its adjoining areas faced inconvenience as police and paramilitary CRPF did not allow them to even venture on roads.
Tourists who were scheduled to reach Srinagar International Airport for boarding flights to their native places, also faced a tough time.
“We missed our flights as police and CRPF did not allow us to travel to the Airport,” said a group of tourists.
People in various areas of the summer capital particularly Shaher-e-Khaas faced inconvenience due to shortage of essential items. “Due to curfew we could not purchase essential items and medicine,” said Ghulam Muhammad of Khanyar locality in Shaher-e-Khaas.
Police also stopped milk supplies from other districts into Srinagar. “Our babies suffered due to shortage of milk,” said a group of woman at Dalgate market.
