Grand Mufti condemns, calls for 4-day shutdown
Srinagar, Feb 9: Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir Mufti Muhammad Bashiruddin has strongly condemned the hanging of parliament attack convict Afzal Guru by the Government of India today.
In a statement issued here, Grand Mufti while expressing deep sorrow and unhappiness said that the hanging of Afzal Guru would not solve the Kashmir issue nor would it serve any purpose.
Grand Mufti said that it would further aggravate the law and order situation in the Valley.
Grand Mufti called for a 4 day complete shutdown in the Valley and appealed people to pay tribute to “Great Martyr.”
Grand Mufti expressing solidarity with the bereaved family said that the whole Kashmir is mourning the hanging of Afzal Guru ‘as he was not given a fair trial.’
Grand Mufti demanded that the body of Afzal guru be returned to his family in Kashmir so that it is buried with due respects as per Islamic rites.
Meanwhile, Mirwaiz Riyaz Ahmed Hamdani of Jamait-a-Hamdani termed Afzal’s hanging as a shock for Kashmiris.
In a statement here, he expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.
