Mercury rises in Jammu; chill continues in other parts

Srinagar/Jammu, Feb 10: Cold wave conditions continued in Kashmir as the mercury stayed below freezing point across the Valley last night, while in Jammu sunny days, following recent rains and snowfall, has brought much needed relief for the people.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus 1.6 degrees Celsius last night while Gulmarg was the coldest place in the valley where mercury dipped to minus 10.6 degrees Celsius, a MET official said.
Pahalgam resort in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 4.8 degrees Celsius followed by Qazigund (minus 3).
The mercury was, however, recording an upward trend in Jammu region through chill persist, especially during early morning hours.
As per the MET department Jammu recorded maximum temperature at 21.1 degree Celsius on Monday, while the minimum temperature hovered around 7 degree Celsius.
Bhaderwah area of Doda district recorded the lowest night temperature at 0.2 degree Celsius but the day temperature was around normal at 16.6 degrees Celsius.
Officials further said that Batote recorded a maximum temperature of 15.3 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature of 3.1 degrees Celsius.
Similarly, minimum temperature remained at 7 degrees Celsius at Katra, where maximum temperature hovered around 21 degrees Celsius.
