‘SOP not followed’
ALTAF BABA
Baramulla, Feb 12: The preliminary investigation into the killing of 16 year old 9th standard student at Watergam in Rafiabad area of district Baramulla on February 10 has revealed that the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) was not followed by the CRPF personnel as they fired at the people in the area, leading to the death of a student and serious injury to another.
According to sources, CRPF troops left Ladoora junction on February 10 in three vehicles without informing the in-charge police post at Ladoora and started moving towards the Watergam, wherefrom clashes between protesters and the police were reported. Sources told Greater Kashmir that the CRPF personnel were asked by the local Rashtriya Rifles camp not to move towards Watergam. However, CRPF party ignored counsel and started moving towards the Watergam.
On reaching Watergam, CRPF personnel, according to police started firing indiscriminately on the people injuring five youth. Later one of the injured succumbed at SKIMS Soura. The nature of the injuries also suggests that the bullets were fired directly at the people as one of the youth received bullet in his head and another in abdomen, indicating that the bullets were fired above the waist, police said.
