Afzal’s hanging can’t suppress Kashmir movement: PaK PM
TARIQ NAQASH
Muzaffarabad, Feb 13: Prime Minister of Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) Chaudhry Abdul Majeed on Wednesday said that persecution of Kashmiris would not deter them from carrying forward their legitimate struggle.
“Rendering sacrifices is not something unusual for the Kashmiris. They have been doing so since ages. However, New Delhi is badly mistaken by assuming that it can suppress the movement by sending Afzal Guru to gallows 29 years after hanging Maqbool Bhat in a similar fashion,” he told a news conference here.
The press conference was held a day ahead of a grand protest rally being organized by the government in consultation with all political and religious organizations of the state as well as All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leaders. The government had constituted a three member ministerial committee to make contacts with the PaK and Hurriyat leadership for participation in the protest rally.
Majeed was of the view that New Delhi had not just hanged Guru it had hanged humanity, morality and its owns laws and constitution. “Let it be clear to India that this movement will go on until its taken to its logical end ,” he said.
The PaK premier also demanded return of bodies of Guru and Bhat to Kashmiris and asked the international community to support this rightful demand.
He stressed that the movement in Kashmir was indigenous and Pakistan had no role in it, except for extending political, moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiris for being a key party to the dispute.
“Pakistan has always advocated peace process. We, the Kashmiris, want to further this process, instead of being driven by the emotions,” he said.
He also urged international community to take notice of the human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir.
Majeed also expressed his gratitude to the Indian intellectuals who are supporting the just cause of Kashmiris. “I am sure this number will rise not only in India but across the world,” he said.
The prime minister expressed hope that Thursday protest rally would see maximum participation by people from all walks of life.
“Our internal political differences apart, on the issue of Kashmir we all are united. We cannot compromise on their fundamental right, right to self determination,” he said.
