Situation ‘Grim’ In Main Town; Patients Suffer For Want Of Medicine

Islamabad (Anantnag), Feb 13: With stringent curfew in place for the fifth straight day Wednesday, people in this south Kashmir town are facing acute shortage of essentials and medicine. The chemists are also running short of life-saving drugs, putting the patients to immense inconvenience.   
The residents from Cheeni Chowk, Malaknag, Kadipora, Lazibal and other areas, who spoke to Greater Kashmir, said they are running short of essentials including rice, vegetables and other food items.
“The situation is extremely grim. The areas are even running short of baby food, cooking gas and milk,” said Nasir Ahmad, a resident of curfew-bound Cheeni Chowk.
“The authorities should have relaxed the curfew at least for few hours so that we could buy some food for our children.” said Muhamad Amin of Malakhnag. People said that they are not allowed to venture out of their homes. “My aunt developed acute abdominal pain in the morning. We tried to shift her to the district hospital, but the forces stopped us,” said Umar, a resident of Lazibal. “Even chemists in the town are running short of live-saving drugs. The situation is turning extremely grim.”
