SMC lifts 310 metric tons of garbage

Srinagar, Feb 13: Continuing with its special sanitation drive, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Wednesday lifted 310 metric tons of garbage in various areas of the city.
In a statement SMC Media officer said all the main roads, link roads lanes and by lanes of 34 administrative wards were sanitized excluding few volatile areas of Shaher-e-Khaas where curfew was clamped strictly.
“Around 90 percent of the staff reported for duty and started conducting sanitation since wee hours today. Atleast 310 metric tons of garbage were removed from various collection points up to 3.30 pm. The sanitation continued till late hours in the evening till the leftover garbage was cleared up,” the statement said.
The garbage lifting vehicles undertook more than 90 trips to ferry waste lifting to land fill dumping site at Achan.
Meanwhile, SMC Commissioner Dr GN Qasba in a meeting held with all the Municipal Ward officers reviewed sanitation of the city. He directed ward officers to inspect their concerned wards for ensuring proper sanitation.
He further said SMC would provide immediate assistance to the people/households in terms of sanitation at the earliest. Later Dr Qasba visited various areas to inspect the sanitation of the city.
