NC slams HCBA
‘Omar’s consent was neither required nor sought’
Srinagar Feb 14: The ruling National Conference Thursday criticized the High Court Bar Association ( HCBA) for its statement that the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah “gave consent” to the hanging of Afzal Guru. The NC called it as “utter lies, fabricated with a malicious intent [Sic].”
“It is very unfortunate and disappointing that the HCBA has come out with a statement that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has given consent to the hanging of Afzal Guru. Omar Abdullah’s wasn’t required to give his consent nor was his consent sought before the decision was taken,” said a spokesman of National Conference in a statement issued here. “They (HCBA) are deliberately trying to incite people. If they are practicing their profession by spreading lies, we can only but imagine the plight of the people they represent in the court rooms.”
The NC spokesman said, “As Bar Association, it has to lead by example. In particular, it lectures on the rule of law, yet its statement of this nature falls far short of the standards it seeks to impose on others.” “By this statement they have proved that they are being remote controlled by people who want to create a law and order problem here,” the spokesman alleged. “We condemn such a statement and seek an apology from them.”
The NC spokesman further said that “Omar Abdullah made no secret of his opposition to the hanging and the fact can’t be changed or ignored.”
