Jammu, Feb 1: Bringing an end to long wait of aspirants, the government has finally referred the posts of Assistant Professors to Public Service Commission (PSC) for recruitment.
Sources said that the Higher Education department has referred 847 posts of Assistant Professors against the total sanctioned strength of 1129, to Public Service Commission for inviting applications and making recruitments thereof.
Sources said that the Higher Education department forwarded the posts to PSC on January 28, 2013 with subject wise distribution and asked it to issue the advertisements for inviting applications from the eligible candidates.
They said that the HE department has withheld the remaining posts for the job oriented courses and the recruitment for these posts would be held in due course of time separately.
“A total of 1129 posts of Assistant Professors were created by government but for now only 847 posts have been referred to PSC, while 282 are withheld by Higher Education department for the job oriented subjects,” sources said.
They said that out of the total number of posts, 72 posts were solely meant for 18 new colleges established in the year 2007-08.
Sources informed that approximately 250 posts have been approved for 45 colleges of Jammu province having strength of 38,825 students as per data of 2011-12 and 600 posts for 50 colleges of Kashmir and Leh having strength of 78,026 students.
Pertinently, the recruitment against the posts was pending for last over five months since these were approved by the state cabinet on August 1 2012.
The posts created by the government for meeting the faculty requirement of new and old colleges had raised much hope among the highly educated youth of the state waiting for a right opportunity.
