JKPDC lifts title
ALL INDIA MALWA FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
Srinagar, Feb 4: The Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKPDC) football team lifted the All India Invitational Malwa Football Tournament title defeating Sahara India Lucknow by 2-0 in the final played at Sironj in Badesha District of Madya Pradesh on Monday.
In the first half, both teams gave their best shot but could not get the lead. At the end of half, score was 0-0. In second half, it was JKPDC who dominated the things and were successful in scoring two goals. Gulzar and Danny were the scorers for PDC.
PDC was awarded prize money of Rs 1,00,000 and Rs 11000 each for man of match (Gulzar) and the man of the tournament (Damny)..
It is for the second time, the team has won a national level tournament in a short span of 2 years since it was formed.
“The growth of the team as a potent force is mainly attributed to the personal interest of Chief Minister J&K Omar Abdullah who is the Chairman of the Corporation Basharat Ahmad Dhar,” an official handout said.
“The team is growing from strength to strength and credit for part of the success goes to the Manager Iftikhar Kakroo, coach Abdul Majeed and Assistant Coach Rajinder Choudhary,” the statement added.
In the team had super run from the start. In its first match, PDC defeated City Club Mumbai by 2-0 while as in quarterfinal it defeated Jamia Millia Delhi in tie-breaker by 6-5. In the semi-final the team had defeated RCF Mumbai by 1-0.
The team is now leaving for Nagpur to participate in another National level tournament from February 7 to 17 and are considered to be hot favourites to win the tournament.
J&K Sports Development Association (JKPDC) President Bashir Ahmad Malik has congratulated JKPDC team and its management for the win.
“The team is new and mostly comprise of youngsters. This win certainly will boost their morale and they go on to win many more such titles,” he said.
“I appeal other departments of the State who were directed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to form football team to follow PDC and give our players some security in shape of employment,” he added.
