RIP Shyamji
1pm ET, 11:30 pm IST. It is a call from India and the screen shows it is Javed Jalib. He is a sort of incoherent and I could feel he was totally shattered. An odd time to call and the caller not his usual self was enough to prepare me for some bad news , but what he conveyed was a big shock," Shyam Kaul is no more......". I wish I were near him to comfort him, after all Shyam Kaul was as prominent and a founding member ( like all of US including JJ) of that exclusive Residency Road Club which had no permanent address and yet provided all the pleasures which no other elite club ever could. A gentleman to a fault, it was always a treat to spend an evening with him and he was as charming in the morning over a cup of coffee at the Once Upon A Time India Coffee House, an integral part of our Club. All will miss him but We of the Club have lost an important part of our body and we will live the rest of our lives with this disability. Do I have to say that he was a veteran journalist ? Shyamji RIP.
