Gulmarg Ski Cup from January 18
Srinagar, Jan 11: The Tourism Department, Kashmir is going to organise a three-day Gulmarg Ski Cup at Gulmarg from January 18 to 20.
The competitions will be held in Slalom and Giant Slalom events in senior, junior-1, junior-2, children-1 and children-2 categories in both boys and girls section.
For senior boys and girls category age group in above 19 years while for Junior-1 boys and girls players should be born between 1993 and 1995. For Junior-2 boys and girls category, players should be born between 1996 to 1997 while for Children-1 boys and girls category, age limit is 1998 to 1999. For Children-2 boys and girls category, age limit is 2000 to 2001.
On January 18 all the competitors shall report at Tourism Ski Shop at Gulmarg at 9.30 am. The elimination rounds in all age groups and events will be held on same day.
Those who qualify the preliminary rounds will stay back at Gulmarg for further rounds, while those who do not qualify shall have to return their homes after completing the preliminary rounds on January 18.
“The Championship is being sponsored by the Hoteliers Club. Hundreds of boys and girls are expected to partake it. The department has chalked out number of winter sports
activities this year. The Winter Sports Festival on the eve of New Year Celebration was huge success,” said Director Tourism, Talat Parvez.
The local hoteliers, J&K State Cable Car Corporation, and the members on Technical Committee comprising renowned experts are extending their full cooperation to the organisers, he added.
The registration forms for the Gulmarg Ski Cup are available at TRC Gulmarg and Adventure Wing TRC Srinagar against the payment of entry fee of Rs.100.00. The last date for submission of forms is 16th January. For further information skiers can contact Dr Ilyas Nasir, Asstt. Director Tourism Gulmarg.
Muhammad Yusuf, Technical Committee member expressed his joy that the closing function of the championship is being held on 20th January. Coincidently on this day the World Snow Day is being celebrated all over world. The Gulmarg Ski Cup would coincide with the celebration of this big day.
