30 Court Arrest At Khanqah-e-Moula

Srinagar, Jan 11: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) on Friday launched the fourth phase of its Jail Bharo programme with about 30 people courting arrest at Khanqah-e- Moula in old city here.
“About 30 more people courted arrest today at Khanqah-e-Moula in connection with the JKLF Jail Bharo movement. The arrestees included JKLF leaders: Mir Siraj-ud-Din, Javed Ahmad Bhat, Gulzar Ahmad Pahalwan, Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri, Muhammad Ayub Naikoo, Muhammad Ramzan Sofi, Hafiz Ghulam Hassan, Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, Khazar Muhammad Wani, Ghulam Hassan Mir, Ghulam Nabi Malik, Aaqib Ahmad Dar, Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, Muhammad Rafiq Mir, Bashir Ahmad Mir, Muhammad Yasin Khan, Ali Muhammad Mir, Bilal Ahmad Dar, Abdul Hamid Malik, Muhammad Maqbool Dar, Nazir Ahmad Hajam, Abdul Majid Tantray, Abdul Rehman Dar, Ghulam Muhammad Kondoo, Farooq Ahmad Beigh and Ishfaq Ahmad Kondoo, etc. The arrestees were shifted to sub-jail, Kupwara, and sub-jail, Baramulla.
Ghulam Rasool Sofi, brother of missing freedom fighter Muhammad Sideeq Sofi, Ghulam Ahmad Mashrooh, father of late Muhammad Iqbal Mashrooh, Aisha Begum, mother of jailed Showkat Ahmad Khan, his wife and children Arshika Showkat and Azhar Showkat, wife of Jailed Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, his sister and sister-in-law, mother and father of jailed Javed Ahmad Khan, famous businessmen Muhammad Farooq Nawaz and Muhammad Yasin Sheikh and others were also present. After Friday prayers a procession was taken out from the shrine of Khanqah-e-Moula. Hundreds of participants including women, children and youth marched towards Bohri Kadal Chowk raising slogans in favor of Azadi, resistance movement, leaders, martyrs and prisoners. Police in large numbers were present on the occasion.Though the arrests were to be presented at Bohri Kadal Chowk but police had cordoned off the road and laid a siege at Khanqah Chowk. “After reaching near Zaina Kadal Chowk the procession was stopped and JKLF leaders and workers courted arrest,” said a spokesman of the Front in a statement today.
Before courting arrest, JKLF leader Mir Siraj-ud-Din addressed the gathering. He said, “JKLF Jail Bharo Tehreek is intended at highlighting the issue of prisoners. We cannot bear the ill treatment of our brethren in jails. JKLF has started a peaceful political campaign against this subjugation and will in future also organize programs like these. Today we are here protesting against the verdict of death, life and other harsh sentences against Kashmiri prisoners.”
“The 5th and final phase of JKLF Jail Bharo Tehreek will be held here on Sunday 13th January 2013 at Abi Guzar. JKLF leader Noor Muhammad Kalwal will lead this phase,” said the spokesman.
Meanwhile, Front has condoled the demises of Abdul Qayoom Jan, president Municipal Employees Union, and Hilal Ahmad Wani of Pulwama.
