SMC conducts snow clearance near shrines, masjids
Srinagar, Jan 18: Srinagar Muncipal Corporation (SMC) on Friday cleared snow from roads and streets near shrines and masjids in various areas of the City.
In a statement a spokesperson of SMC said atleast 70 percent snow cleared by the SMC’s snow clearance squad in uptown areas and Shaher-e-Khaas.
“The SMC’s squad focused on lanes, bylanes and roads leading to shrines and masjids so that people could conveniently reach these places to offer congregational Friday prayers,” the spokesperson said.
Besides hundreds of its men, SMC had pressed into service its state-of-the-art JCB and Skid loaders for snow clearance operation.
“The drive will continue till all lanes, bylanes and some vital interiors are cleared off snow for smooth pedestrian movement,” the spokesperson added.
“SMC is committed to provide all-weather services to people of Srinagar,” said Commissioner SMC Dr GN Qasba. “We will leave no stone unturned to ensure proper sanitation of the City and timely snow clearance for convenience of people,” Dr Qasba added.
