Panchayat members host R-Day function in Bandipora

Bandipora, Jan 26: In Bankoot area of this district, it was function with a difference with panchayat members hosting the 64th Republic Day function.
According to locals, this was for the first time in past two decades that people participated in Republic Day function in Bonkoot area and in which 90-year-old hoisted tri-colour.
“Instead of participating in the flag hoisting ceremony of civil administration, we participated in ceremony organized by Panchayat members of block Bonkoot in collaboration with Army,” said a panchayat member.
Ninety year old Haji Doda Khan of Pethkoot hoisted the tri-colour in presence of commanding officer 5 Para Col Patil, who was Chief Guest on the occasion.
“We are participating in the function of our own, we want to give a message to the people in the state,” said Haji Doda Khan.
“It reminds me of my days when I used to represent my school team in such functions,” he said.
“It is mater of honor for Panchayat members and Army that people joined us to celebrate. We have to work together to develop the state at par with other states, said Commanding Officer of 5 Para Col Patil while addressing the people.
