Bar releases Annual Jail Visit Report

Srinagar, Jan 28: Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association has released Annual Jail Visit Report -2012- after its team members concluded their visit to various jails in Jammu division.
The team visited District Jail Poonch, Sub-Jail Rajouri, Central Jail Kotebalwal, Jammu District Jail, Amphala Jail, District Jail Kathua and Sub-Jail Hiranagar.
The team interacted with jail inmates and jail authorities about the inside condition of the jails and problems faced by the inmates.
The HCBA had got permission to visit various jails of Jammu district in an interim direction on December 14, 2012, in the writ petition titled “J&K High Court Bar Association vs State and Others.”
The Association will file the report in Jammu and Kashmir High Court soon.
“The lawyers were permitted to have face to face interactions with the political detainees including those detained under preventive laws and under-trial prisoners,” a spokesman of the HCBA said. The Bar Association had nominated a team of lawyers headed by Aijaz Bedar with Muhammad Ashraf Bhat, Bilal Ahmad Wani, Advocate G. N. Shaheen and Hamid Shafi as its members.
