Tangmarg villagers help themselves
Construct footbridge, connect 50 villages
AHMAD KASHMIRI
Tangmarg, Jan 8: Villagers of Chanpora here in north Kashmir have made a wooden footbridge worth Rs 20,000 on 'Hale Sharee' (self help) basis by contributing poplar trees, wooden logs and other construction material and labour.
The foot bridge has been joined with the half completed ADB funded Kunzar-Chanpora bridge under construction by ERA.
The departmental delay in the construction of Kunzar-Chanpora bridge over Ferozpora Nallah had disconnected nearly fifty villages from the main road.
Locals have hailed the initiative of the villagers. "Connecting the incomplete bridge to mitigate the sufferings of people should serve as an eye opener for the government," they added.
