Hashim denounces use of force against protesters
Srinagar, Mar 9: Democratic Liberation Party chairman Hashim Qureshi on Saturday strongly denounced, what he said, the use of indiscriminate force against peaceful protesters by the police and CRPF personnel.
Addressing a meeting of Party office-bearers and workers here, Hashim alleged that the police and other armed forces had unleashed a reign of terror across the Valley by barging into the houses of civilians, smashing windowpanes and doors of houses and vehicles, using pepper gas and teargas shells and firing bullets and pellets thereby injuring scores of people in several areas. “Hundreds of people particularly youth have been arrested by the police and lodged in different police stations where they are subjecting to physical and mental torture. Parent of the arrested boys are demanded huge sums of money in lieu of their release ,”a spokesman of the Party in a statement today quoted Hashim as having said, threatening serious consequences if the repressive measures are not immediately stops.
