Even before a child is born, his parents start dreaming about his life and career. They aspire him or her to be the most successful person so that he or she makes them proud. No doubt it’s the obligation on a parent’s part to provide quality education to children but the question is why is it that most of the parents these days don’t want their children to go to Government schools, but when it comes to their job they want a government job? If we don’t trust a government teacher to provide quality education to our children, then why do we want our child to be one amongst them in the future? Doesn’t it reflect our double standard as we want the best from our society, but when it comes to pay back, we don’t want to give our hundred percent. We want a job which has high status and comes with security, less work, pension, nearer to home posting, and above all which pays bribe.
A government job is not the only way to earn a respectable living as there are many other opportunities waiting to be explored. Private sector jobs are actually much more fruitful as compared to a government job in numerous ways. Personal development is achieved in a private sector as you are more inclined to improve your skills and talent because it is a performance based sector. Another factor is the time it takes to get the promotions in government sector. It takes decades to get promoted even if you do your work very efficiently in government sector, whereas in private sector your promotions are directly related to your performance. In private sector one can switch job easily if he or she is not happy with either the company or not sure of his or her progress in it. But switching a job is a very rarely possible in government sector.
Entrepreneurship is another good option to explore. Here you get to be your own boss. The freedom of being a business owner is amazing as you work not only for yourself but also provide job opportunities to many others. It’s ripe time we start changing our mindset. While looking for the jobs in government sector, we must keep our options open and look for other sectors as well. Instead of saying “I hope I can find somebody to hire me”, let us say “I have this great Idea in my mind, let’s make it a reality”.
