National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday said that using “Bhagwan Ram” has not worked out in BJP’s favour.

Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Dr Farooq Abdullah said, “Using the name of “Bhagwan Ram” for winning elections has led to BJP’s collapse. People have rejected Mandir-Masjid politics and upheld secular politics in the country. For four years they didn’t remember that they had to build a temple but in election time they have suddenly remembered Bhagwan Ram.”

He said, “People have voted against betrayal of promises, be it GST, demonetization or any other policy decision taken during last four years. The value of Indian rupee has gone down, commitment of transferring fifty lakhs in the bank accounts of people and demonetization are the factors that have contributed to the defeat of BJP in the five states.”

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said that the results in five states including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chatisgarh, Tilangana and Manipur are outright rejection of Mandir-Masjid politics and shows that political awakening among the people in India is on rise. “The results show the people of India truly believe in religious brotherhood and don’t like politics of intolerance and hate.”

Senior Congress leader and former union minister Prof Saifuddin Soz congratulated the AICC president Rahul Gandhi for the spectacular performance of the party in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh. “The RSS-BJP combine was punished by common people  for hate mongering and communalization in the country. All this augurs well for general elections in 2019.It won’t be any surprise for the people of India that Modi will not be the Prime Minister, again,” Soz said.

CPI (M) senior leader, M Y Tarigami termed the verdict of people in the elections in five states as ‘big good news’ for entire country including the people of Jammu and Kashmir as well. “The verdict given by the people in the elections signals the coming events and directions of the country’s politics. Now, it seems that people of India will make a better choice in the coming general elections, a new government which is inclusive and not divisive and it will provide a big relief for the sufferings of peasants, unemployed youth and toiling sections of the population,” Tarigami said.

Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) chairman, Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen told KNS that the verdict given by the people is victory for secular forces. “The atmosphere that was created across India has to be changed as people feel betrayed as not even a single promises done with them was fulfilled,” he said.

Democratic Party Nationalist (DPN) president and former minister, Ghulam Hassan Mir said that people are masters, the way they like they go. “Nobody can ever take people either on ride or for granted,” he added.
