Sericulture Deptt vows to double J&K’s silk cocoon output

Srinagar, May 28: Director Sericulture, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat today undertook a field visit to the upper reaches of District Pulwama to assess the progress of the ongoing silkworm rearing season. During his interaction with local silkworm rearers and farmers, Bhat emphasized the department’s commitment to doubling silk cocoon production while maintaining quality.

At Beat Satura in Tral, Bhat meticulously examined the rearing practices and apprised the rearers of advanced techniques to boost their cocoon output without compromising quality. He assured them of the department’s full support to enhance productivity and profitability.

   

Highlighting the collaborative efforts with the Central Silk Board, Bhat informed the gathering about various subsidies available for establishing silk reeling units in J&K. He urged the youth to leverage the potential of the Sericulture Development Department, avail the plethora of benefits, and engage in profitable ventures associated with the silk industry.

“By availing these benefits, the youth can play a significant role in increasing J&K’s silk production figures and contribute to making J&K the largest silk producer in India,” Bhat added, encouraging youth to bolster their income through sericulture schemes.

The visit underscores the pivotal importance of sericulture in J&K’s agrarian economy and the concerted efforts to enhance the productivity and sustainability of the silk industry. The department remains committed to providing subsidies, training, and continuous support to silkworm rearers, farmers, youth, and stakeholders for socio-economic transformation and regional development.

Bhat was accompanied by senior officials, including the Additional Director Sericulture Development Department Kashmir, Project Executive Officer Srinagar, District Sericulture Officers from Pulwama and Shopian, among others.
