Strengthen PSC

The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (J&K PSC) is without a chairman and other members at present. The vacant gazetted posts in government departments are referred to J&K PSC for conducting the recruitment process and subsequent examinations.

After the recruitment process and examinations, the commission sends the list of selected candidates to the government for the recruitment on vacant posts. That way the role of J&K PSC and Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board( J&KSSB), which conducts the recruitment process for non- gazetted posts in the government departments is very important.

   

A strong PSC and SSB can help in speedy recruitment processes. The number of unemployed educated youth is fast increasing every day. The growing unemployment is a cause of concern. The youth have great expectations from the government and want government jobs.

Since the government cannot provide jobs to each and every unemployed person, but all the vacant posts lying in various departments can be filled up. Such a process can pick up pace when the PSC and SSB have the required man power to do so.

There is an immediate need to first fill up the vacant posts of chairperson and members in PSC. While those at PSC at this time are trying their level best to carry out the routine work to a certain level but absence of a chairperson and members does affect the overall and speedy recruitment process.

According to reports all the recruitment and departmental examinations have been posted since November 20, 2023. The term of the chairman Satish Chandra came to an end on November 19, 2023. Reports said that the routine and departmental examinations set from December 24, 2023 to January 28, 2024 were postponed.

A tenure of another member ended on January 10. The commission has only a member now and the secretary. According to officers at the PSC, it takes time to appoint a chairman and the members.

They added that the routine work is going on and the pending examinations will be conducted by February or March. It is being hoped that the chairman and the members of the commission are appointed at the earliest so that the recruitment process is effectively and speedily carried forward.

The unemployed educated youth should not suffer and every effort should be made at all concerned levels to address the growing challenge of unemployment.
