Event on impact of e-waste organised at GHSS Khanyar

Srinagar, June 7: The Chief Education Officer, Srinagar, Abdul Hamid Fani, organised a series of e-waste collection drives, e-waste collection points, and seminars on the impact of e-waste on the planet

The activities were part of the Summer CAMPS initiative held at GHSS Khanyar. The programme has witnessed overwhelming participation from community members, students, and faculty alike. The highlight of the event was when an 80-year-old women from the community handed over e-waste, earning thunderous applause from the audience.

   

The students of GGHSS Khanyar performed a mesmerising Ladi Shah and an awareness skit on e-waste, which left the audience spellbound. CEO Srinagar appreciated the students for their wonderful performance, which conveyed a strong message about the dangers of e-waste.

Addressing the gathering, Fani highlighted the impact of e-waste on child health, citing the WHO Report of 2021 on e-waste. He emphasised that e-waste is the fastest-growing solid waste stream in the world, increasing faster than the world population. He urged students to act as ambassadors and raise awareness among their family, friends, and community members about the threat of e-waste and the necessary measures to reduce it.

CEO Srinagar appreciated the efforts of Wahida Sheikh, Principal GGHSS, faculty, and students, as well as all the HOIs, ZEOs, faculty, students, community members, Nazrana, DNO Summer Camps, and all the 8 ZNOs of Summer Camps for their contribution in making the activities successful.
