Hunt begins for VC BGSBU, CU Jammu

Srinagar, Jan 1: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has started the process for the appointment of new Vice Chancellor for Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) Rajouri and Cluster University Jammu (CUJ).

An official said the J&K government has constituted the search committee to draw the panel of candidates for the appointment of new VCs for the two Universities.

   

Following the constitution of the search committee, the process for inviting applications from the eligible candidates for the post of VC has been started in both the Universities.

An official said that the process for appointment of VC BGSBU will be operated through Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) as the notification issued for inviting applications for the post of VC BGSBU has been issued by the Registrar SMVDU.

“The search committee constituted by the Chancellor of the University is seeking applications for the position of Vice Chancellor, BGSBU with an intent to widen the search process,” reads the notification issued by Registrar SMVDU.

“The VC being the academic as well as administrative head is expected to possess the highest level of competence, integrity, morals and institutional commitment and be a visionary with proven leadership qualities and reputed academician with proven administrative acumen and ability,” the notification reads.

As per the notification the candidate should have an outstanding academic record throughout and a minimum of 10 years experience as a Professor in a Government University, IISc/IITs/IIITs/NITs and similar Institutions or 10 years of experience in an equivalent position in a reputed research or academic administrative organization with proof of having demonstrated academic leadership.

“The Vice Chancellor shall not be more than 65 years of age as on closing date of receipt of applications of this advertisement,” it reads,

The last date for the submission of application has been fixed as January 30 of 2024. “The in-service candidates must furnish NoC and Vigilance clearance certificate along with application form,” it reads.

Similarly, the Registrar Cluster University Jammu through a notification has invited applications from the eligible candidates for the post of VC of the University.

“The VC should be a visionary with proven leadership qualities, administrative capabilities as well as teaching and research credentials,” the notification reads.

The candidate should have outstanding academic record throughout and a minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Professor in a University system or in an equivalent position in a reputed research and/or academic administrative organization as on the closing date of receipt of applications of this advertisement.

“He should not be more than 65 years of age as on the closing date of receipt,” it reads.

The appointment of VC CUJ will be made from a panel of names recommended by the Search Committee constituted under the provisions of the Srinagar and Jammu Cluster Universities Act 2016.

“The application should reach on or before January 15 of 2024,” it reads.

This newspaper on October 20 of 2023 reported that the three-year term of VCs at three universities in Jammu and Kashmir, including Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Cluster University Srinagar (CUS), and Cluster University Jammu (CUJ), is nearing end and time was ripe for the J&K government to initiate selection process in advance.

The J&K government appointed Prof. Akbar Masood as the VC BGSBU Rajouri on February 13 of 2021 for a three-year term. His term is set to expire in February 2024.

Also, Professor Bechan Lal was appointed as the VC CUJ on January 25, 2021, for a three-year term while Professor (Dr) Qayyum Husain was appointed VC Cluster University Srinagar (CUS) on April 1 of 2021 for a three-year term.
