JKSSB, IGNOU exam date clash leaves aspirants in distress

Srinagar, June 20: The clash of exams scheduled for June 23 has left numerous aspirants in Jammu and Kashmir in a state of distress.

The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has scheduled the exam for the post of Female Supervisor in the Social Welfare Department on June 23 while Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) had notified the same dates for its exams as well. The overlapping of scheduled dates has created a dilemma for the candidates who are preparing to appear in both exams.

Scores of aspirants have expressed their helplessness saying that they have been left in a situation to choose only one between the two important examinations.

“We have been preparing for months for both these exams. This clash is unfair and puts our future at stake,” said an aspirant who wished not to be named.

“We urge the JKSSB to consider our plea and reschedule the exam for the post of female supervisor,” the aspirants said. Despite repeated appeals from the aspirants, there has been no official response regarding the change in the exam date from the JKSSB.

The aspirants said that the IGNOU exams, being part of a national schedule, are unlikely to be rescheduled which has left the aspirants in distress. “But there has been no communication from JKSSB authorities,” the aspirants said.

The aspirants voiced their concern over the situation and said that such a clash could have been avoided while maintaining proper coordination by the exam conducting bodies.

“The authorities should take a decision considering the impact of the clash on the future of aspirants,” the aspirants said. The aspirants urged the Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha to intervene in the matter.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, Chairman JKSSB Rajesh Sharma said they notified the dates well in advance after doing proper analysis.

“We notified the date of the exam after we got the confirmation that no other exams were scheduled on the same date. But later IGNOU rescheduled the date of one exam which was earlier scheduled on June 18,” he said.

He said that the academic exams were mostly scheduled on working days while the recruitment exams are scheduled on Sundays or other off days.

“But IGNOU scheduled the exam on Sunday (June 23) which was earlier supposed to be held on June 18,” Sharma said while hinting that JKSSB would not reschedule the date of the exam for the post of female supervisor.
