63.37% voting recorded in Phase 6

New Delhi, May 28: The penultimate phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections recorded a voter turnout of 63.37 percent, with 7.05 crore out of 11.13 crore eligible voters exercising their franchise, the Election Commission of India said Tuesday.

A total of 58 seats in eight states went to polls in the sixth phase on May 25.

   

Across the first six phases of the Lok Sabha polls, out of 87.54 crore electors, as many as 57.77 crore voters turned up at the polling stations to cast their votes.

India, which boasts the largest electorate in the world with 96.88 crore eligible voters, has shown varied turnout percentages in different phases of the ongoing elections.

In the 2019 general elections, the sixth phase (which included 59 seats in seven states) saw a turnout of 64.4 percent.

This year’s sixth phase saw a slight decrease in voter turnout compared to the previous election.

The voter turnout in the fifth phase, held on May 20, was recorded at 62.2 percent.

The fourth phase saw a turnout of 69.16 percent, 3.65 percentage points higher than the corresponding phase in the 2019 general elections.

In the third phase of polling, the turnout was 65.68 percent, compared to 68.4 percent in the third phase of the 2019 elections. The second phase of the 2024 elections recorded a turnout of 66.71 percent, as against 69.64 percent in the second phase of the 2019 polls.

The first phase of the ongoing general elections saw a turnout of 66.14 percent, while in the 2019 polls, the turnout for the first phase was 69.43 percent.
