Communal harmony at display in Karnah

Kupwara, July 17: The Muharram procession was on Wednesday taken out in the border town Karnah of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

The procession was taken out from Gundisyedan Imam Bargah to Chitterkote which witnessed the participation of over 100 Shia mourners.

   

The procession ended peacefully later in the afternoon.

Over 30 households belonging to the Shia community live at Gundisyedan, some 7 km from the main town of Tangdhar.

Local Shia leaders hailed the efforts of the administration for making all the arrangements.

An official said that the procession ended peacefully.

“We had made all arrangements besides prominent security measures had been put in place,” he said.

Moulana Syed Waqar Husain Qazmi, a local Shia cleric, appreciated the arrangements made by the administration throughout the route.

He said that even Sunni Muslims came forward and participated in the procession, displaying communal harmony.

“I believe we all are one and should hold on to the rope of unity for the betterment of Muslim Ummah,” he said.
