Srinagar, May 19: Elaborate security arrangements are in place for the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha-2024 polls to be held in the Baramulla parliamentary constituency on Monday.

“We have made elaborate security arrangements for polling in the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat,” a top Police official said.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) approved 1859 rallies, meetings, and road shows, rejecting 300 applications.

In the 2019 elections, Baramulla parliamentary constituency recorded a 34.17 percent turnout with Kupwara district leading at 51.7 percent followed by Bandipora district at 31.8 percent, and Baramulla district at 24 percent.

“We are ready for a smooth election process,” an ECI official said. “This election showcases the diversity of our electorate.”

As Baramulla heads to the polls, the focus remains on the voter turnout with the fate of some of the region’s most prominent political figures hanging in the balance.

This election marks a significant political contest in Kashmir post the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
