Kashmir shivers as temperature drops below zero

Srinagar, Dec 9: Kashmir continues to shiver with minimum temperatures dropping below zero degrees Celsius even as Srinagar recorded the coldest night of this winter.

“There was a drop in mercury by 2.2 degrees Celsius against minus 2.6 degrees Celsius the previous night,” MeT officials said. “The temperature was 4 degrees Celsius below normal for this time of the year in Srinagar.”

   

The officials said that Gulmarg ski resort in Baramulla recorded a low of minus 4.3 degrees Celsius against minus 3 degrees Celsius the previous night and the temperature was 0.5 degrees Celsius below normal.

They said Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 5 degrees Celsius against minus 4.8 degrees Celsius the previous night and it was 1.8 degrees Celsius below normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir.

“Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus 2.3 degrees Celsius against minus 2 degrees Celsius the previous night and the temperature was below normal by 1.6 degrees Celsius for the place,” the MeT officials said.

They said Qazigund recorded a minimum of minus 2.8 degrees Celsius against minus 2.4 degrees Celsius the previous night and the minimum temperature was 2 degrees Celsius below normal for the gateway town.

The MeT officials said that Kupwara recorded a low of minus 3 degrees Celsius against minus 2.5 degrees Celsius the previous night and it was 1.2 degrees Celsius below normal there.

Jammu recorded a minimum of 8.1 degrees Celsius against 8.6 degrees Celsius the previous night, and it was below normal by 1.9 degrees Celsius.
