Rains lash J&K, snowfall at Gulmarg

Srinagar, Mar 31: The plains of Jammu and Kashmir received rainfall for the third day while the upper reaches including the ski resort of Gulmarg, experienced fresh snowfall plummeting the temperature during the past 24 hours.

Kashmir is experiencing a spell of heavy rains and snowfall, leading to a drop in night temperatures. The recent weather pattern has brought significant precipitation to both the plains and higher reaches of J&K including tourist destinations like Gulmarg and Sonamarg.

   

According to the Meteorological Department officials, several areas in Kashmir received substantial rainfall in the last 24 hours.

Batote received 30 mm of rain, Kokernag 26.2 mm, Pahalgam 25.2 mm, and Qazigund 21.4 mm.

Gulmarg received 2.5 cm of snowfall along with 10.8 mm of rain.

The drop in night temperatures has been noticeable with Srinagar recording a minimum of 4.8 degrees Celsius, Qazigund 5.8 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam 0.8 degrees Celsius, and Kokernag 4.2 degrees Celsius.

These temperatures are below normal for this time of the year, indicating the severity of the current weather conditions.

Gulmarg, recorded a low of minus 1.2 degrees Celsius, while Jammu recorded a minimum of 14.5 degrees Celsius, below normal by 2.1 degrees Celsius.

Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah also saw temperatures below normal.

The MeT predicted isolated to scattered light rain or thunderstorms over J&K in the next 24 hours. However, generally dry weather is expected thereafter until April 5, except for April 3, when fairly widespread rain has been forecast.

The prolonged spell of heavy rains and snowfall has impacted normal life in Kashmir, affecting transportation and daily activities.

The authorities are advising residents and tourists to exercise caution and be prepared for further changes in weather conditions.

After a period of heavy rainfall and snowfall, Kashmir on Sunday experienced a sunny day, bringing relief to residents and tourists alike.
