Baramulla, Aug 24: Police today said a checkpoint of security forces was attacked at Watergam Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

“The security forces repelled the attack and in the ensuing gunfight, a terrorist was killed,” Police said. “The body of the terrorist along with arms and ammunition was spotted at the encounter site.”

   

The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army shared on X, “Consequent to specific intelligence about the area, a joint team of the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police was fired at by terrorists in the Watergam area of Sopore. Vigilant troops swiftly responded, and a gunfight ensued. The operation is in progress.”

Soon after the incident, security forces cordoned the area and started search operations.

The officials have not yet confirmed the identity of the killed person.

“It is believed that two terrorists were involved in the attack while security forces have launched a massive manhunt to nab the other terrorist involved in the attack,” they said.
