Srinagar, May 23:

Unprecedented security measures have been implemented in south Kashmir ahead of the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency elections scheduled for Saturday.

Security forces in Kulgam, Anantnag, and parts of Shopian have geared up for the crucial voting phase.

Security forces have intensified area domination and increased patrolling to ensure a safe environment for voters.

Surveillance has been significantly enhanced, with movements being closely monitored to prevent any untoward incidents.

“The security arrangements are the most extensive we have ever put in place for an election in south Kashmir,” a senior Police officer said. “We have increased area domination and intensified patrolling to ensure that the election process is smooth and secure.”

Polling staff, accompanied by security personnel, will be dispatched to polling stations on Friday.

“We are ensuring that all polling staff and materials reach their destinations safely and securely,” the officer said. “Our teams are prepared to handle any situation that may arise.”

Another senior security official said: “Our primary objective is to ensure that the elections are conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner.  We are committed to providing a safe environment for all voters to exercise their democratic rights.”

In recent days, two separate terror attacks took place in Anantnag and Shopian in which a former Sanpanch was killed while a couple was injured.

“Given the recent terror activities, we have intensified our security arrangements to ensure the safety of both voters and polling staff,” the senior Police officer said. “We will not be deterred by violence. Our commitment to democracy is unwavering.”

The officer said, “We won’t allow these cowardly acts to disrupt the democratic process.”

He said: “We are pleased to see a significant number of first-time voters. Their participation is a positive sign for the future of our democracy.”

The ECI has urged voters to come out and exercise their right to vote.

“Every vote counts, and we urge all eligible voters to participate in the electoral process,” the ECI officials said.

Authorities have also been working to ensure that the polling stations are equipped with all necessary facilities.

“We have made all necessary arrangements to ensure that the polling stations are well-equipped and accessible to all voters,” they said.
