New Delhi, June 11: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has confirmed the deaths of two Indian nationals involved in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The individuals, who had been recruited by the Russian Army, lost their lives in the ongoing hostilities.

“We regret to state that two Indian nationals who had been recruited by the Russian Army have recently been killed in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine,” the MEA’s press release stated.

The MEA expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. Efforts are underway to expedite the repatriation of the mortal remains.

The Indian Embassy in Moscow is in close communication with the Russian authorities, including the Ministry of Defense, to ensure the swift return of the bodies, the MEA said.

In response to the incident, the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Moscow have raised the issue with the Russian Ambassador in New Delhi and other relevant officials in Moscow.

They are advocating for the immediate release and repatriation of all Indian nationals currently serving in the Russian Army.

India has also demanded that Russia halt any further recruitment of Indian nationals into its armed forces.

The MEA emphasised that such recruitment activities are not in line with the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

Furthermore, the MEA has advised Indian citizens to exercise caution when considering employment opportunities in Russia.
