Srinagar, July 8: Police on Monday registered a case under the Official Secrets Act following the leak of a government order regarding the security revamp of protected persons.

The order, signed by District Police Srinagar, was leaked and subsequently reported by some local news outlets, prompting a swift response from the law enforcement authorities.

The leaked order detailed sensitive information about the security arrangements for individuals under protection, raising significant concerns about potential risks and vulnerabilities.

The sources said that a case had been registered under FIR No 48/2024 at Police Station Shergadhi and investigations had been initiated to identify and apprehend the culprits responsible for the leak.

The registration of the case under the Official Secrets Act underscores the legal and security implications of the leak.

The act, which deals with offences related to espionage and unauthorised disclosure of official information, carries stringent penalties for those found guilty.

Legal experts said that the case could set a precedent for how similar breaches are handled in the future.
