IGP Kashmir calls for enhanced security measures

Srinagar, June 23: As the annual Amarnath Yatra approaches, commencing on June 29 and culminating on August 19, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, Vidhi Kumar Birdi has emphasised the necessity of robust and sustained security measures to protect yatris from threats posed by Anti-National Elements (ANEs).

In a security meeting held with officers from the Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), V K Birdi highlighted the importance of maintaining stringent security protocols throughout the 52-day yatra.

   

He underscored that the safety of the yatris was paramount and that comprehensive measures should be in place to mitigate any risks.

IGP Kashmir’s inspection tour included a visit to the Navyug Tunnel and Chandanwari, where he assessed the security arrangements along the yatra route and at various camping sites.

The inspection aimed to ensure a secure and seamless yatra experience for all participants.

During his visit, Birdi placed a strong emphasis on continuous monitoring, strict vigilance, and regular patrolling to prevent any security breaches.

He closely examined the security setups at various camping sites, including on-ground deployments, access control systems, AS check teams, and surveillance systems.

Emergency response protocols were also reviewed to ensure preparedness in case of any incidents.

Commending the efforts of the Police and CAPF personnel, the Kashmir police chief praised their high level of vigilance and preparedness.

He urged them to maintain the same level of dedication throughout Amarnath Yatra 2024, emphasising the critical role they play in ensuring the yatra’s success.

At Chandanwari, the IGP Kashmir conducted a detailed review of the security measures with officers from the Police and CAPFs.

Discussions focused on the current security scenario and strategies to further strengthen the safety of the yatra.

The key topics included coordination mechanisms, intelligence sharing, and contingency plans to address any potential threats.

The IGP reiterated the commitment of the Police and CAPFs to ensuring the safety and well-being of all yatris, encouraging officers to remain alert and proactive in their duties.

During the briefing, officers presented the proposed security measures for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra 2024.

These measures included access control, arrangements for camp security, and the use of modern and technical gadgets like CCTVs and drones.

Birdi stressed the importance of utilising these technologies to enhance the security surveillance grid and thwart any threats from ANEs and terrorists.

He directed the officers to ensure better coordination and synergy with various security agencies on the ground to guarantee the peaceful conduct of the yatra.

Additional measures like Road Opening Parties (ROPs), lateral security arrangements, and disaster management preparations were also discussed to provide comprehensive protection to the yatris.

During his visit, IGP Kashmir examined the steps taken for the regulation and parking of vehicles at Baltal.

He emphasised the efficient management of all the resources to streamline the movement of yatris and vehicles.

He also reviewed the measures to be put in place for the implementation of the cut-off timings to avoid any potential risks during the yatra.

Helipad security was also assessed during the visit for heli service operations and it was stressed to ensure the stringent protocols to be followed to safeguard the aerial transportation of yatris.

While paying a visit to the JPCR at Baltal, it was enjoined to ensure seamless coordination among all stakeholders involved in managing the affairs of Amarnath Yatra.

Additionally, IGP reviewed the access control mechanism at Domail, security facilities along the route from Srinagar to Baltal besides various camping sites enroute and advised officers on the spot to fortify security measures and enhance safety parameters.
