Interreligious Marriage: Police takes cognizance of case in Baramulla

Srinagar, Aug 24: The Jammu and Kashmir police on yesterday evening said that they have taken cognizance of an inter-religious marriage after the girl’s father lodged a missing a report in the concerned police station of north Kashmir’s Baramulla.

In a handout, police said that “on 16 Aug this year, police station Kreeri lodged missing report of the daughter of one Gh Mohi-ud-din Sheik (other details with-held), who was missing since morning of 16th August. Today on 23 Aug 2024, it has been learnt that on 19 Aug 2024, the said girl converted and married one Sagar Pradeep Singh of Navi Mumbai (other details with-held). Police Station Kreeri of district police Baramulla has taken cognizance of the matter and has registered case under relevant sections of BNS,” news agency GNS reported as handout saying.

   

The cyber patrol unit of Baramulla police has said it has noticed that there are many posts on the Internet attempting to “care disturbance by using the incident.”

It said that sharing such content violates various laws and will lead to strict legal action, including criminal proceedings.

It further advised people not to share what it called inflammatory content about this incident. “If such content has been shared/ reposted, it is advised to delete the same,” it said.
