Srinagar, June 11: Amid forecasts of a heatwave in the plains of Jammu and hot and dry weather in Kashmir, most areas recorded below-normal night temperatures on Tuesday.
The Meteorological Department officials here said that from June 11 to June 17, the weather is expected to remain generally dry, though there is a possibility of light rain or thunderstorms at isolated locations. “A heatwave is anticipated in the plains of Jammu, while hot and dry conditions are likely to prevail in the remaining areas of J&K,” they said.
From June 18 to June 21, the weather is expected to be generally cloudy, with the possibility of light rain or thunderstorms in isolated places, primarily during the afternoon.
Srinagar recorded a low of 12.7 degrees Celsius, slightly higher than the previous night’s 12 degrees Celsius, but still 1.6 degrees Celsius below the normal for this time of the year.
Qazigund recorded a minimum temperature of 10 degrees Celsius, down from 11.4 degrees Celsius the previous night, and 2.9 degrees Celsius below normal.
Pahalgam saw a steady minimum temperature of 5.5 degrees Celsius, which was 2.7 degrees Celsius above the normal for this time of year.
Kokernag recorded a minimum temperature of 10.7 degrees Celsius, compared to 12.5 degrees Celsius the previous night, marking a drop of 1.4 degrees Celsius below normal.
Kupwara town recorded a low of 10.7 degrees Celsius, up from 9.7 degrees Celsius the previous night, yet still 1.9 degrees Celsius below normal.
Gulmarg recorded a minimum temperature of 7.5 degrees Celsius, down from 8.8 degrees Celsius, and 1.3 degrees Celsius below normal.
Jammu recorded a low of 25.3 degrees Celsius, slightly higher than the previous night’s 23.4 degrees Celsius, but still 0.4 degrees Celsius below normal.
Other locations also showed below-normal night temperatures with Banihal recording 12.1 degrees Celsius, Batote 17.3 degrees Celsius, and Bhaderwah 13 degrees Celsius.
The maximum temperature recorded in Srinagar was 22.3 degrees Celsius, which is 5.6 degrees Celsius below normal for this time of the year.
Qazigund recorded a high of 22.5 degrees Celsius, 4 degrees Celsius below normal.
Pahalgam recorded a maximum of 19.6 degrees Celsius, which is 4.3 degrees Celsius below normal.
Kupwara recorded a significant drop, with a maximum of 15.6 degrees Celsius and 12.2 degrees Celsius below normal.
Kokernag recorded 20.8 degrees Celsius, 5.6 degrees Celsius below normal.
Gulmarg recorded a maximum of 11.2 degrees Celsius, which is 7.4 degrees Celsius below normal.
Anantnag recorded 21.8 degrees Celsius, Ganderbal 19.1 degrees Celsius, Bandipora 18.6 degrees Celsius, Baramulla 19.9 degrees Celsius, Sonamarg 12.7 degrees Celsius, Budgam 19.2 degrees Celsius, Pulwama 21.7 degrees Celsius, and Shopian 18.3 degrees Celsius.
In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded a scorching 41.9 degrees Celsius and Banihal town recorded a high of 23.5 degrees Celsius.
