MeT predicts rain, thundershowers

Srinagar, June 28: Amid scorching heat, the meteorological department has predicted the possibility of rain and thundershowers in Jammu and Kashmir during next 24 hours.

An official from the department said that light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely to occur in many areas of Jammu division during late night and early morning hours. In Kashmir division, light rain is expected at a few locations.

   

Looking ahead from July 1 to July 5, the official indicated a gradual increase in rainfall intensity starting July 2, with intermittent light to moderate rainfall expected at many places. There is also a chance of heavy showers at a few locations during this period.

“Moderate thunderstorms and lightning may occur in some areas,” the official added. “Landslides and mudslides are possible in vulnerable regions.”

Regarding temperatures, Srinagar recorded a low of 19.6°C, which is 2.5°C above the normal for this time of year. Qazigund had a minimum temperature of 15.4°C, slightly below the normal by 0.1°C. Pahalgam reported a low of 11.4°C, which is 0.5°C above normal.

Kokernag recorded a minimum of 17.8°C, 2.6°C below normal. Kupwara maintained a low of 15.8°C, 0.5°C above normal. Gulmarg recorded a minimum of 14.2°C, 0.6°C below normal.
