PM Modi resigns ahead of new Govt

New Delhi, June 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday to tender his resignation, along with that of his council of ministers, ahead of the new cabinet’s oath-taking ceremony.

During the meeting, PM Modi also recommended the dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha.

   

Following the meeting, the President’s office released a statement confirming that President Murmu accepted the resignation.

She has requested Prime Minister Modi and the Council of Ministers to continue in their roles until the new government assumes office.

Earlier in the day, a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Modi in New Delhi resulted in the recommendation for the dissolution of the cabinet, whose term concludes on June 16.

After securing the cabinet’s consent, PM Modi proceeded to Rashtrapati Bhavan to submit the formal resignation.

President Murmu hosted a farewell dinner for the outgoing Union Council of Ministers led by PM Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
