Poor road conditions result in slow traffic movement on Srinagar-Jammu NH

Ramban, May 29: Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of light-medium and heavy vehicles for Jammu but the traffic movement was slow due to narrow road stretches at many places between Nashri and Banihal sectors on Wednesday.

Traffic officials monitoring the regulation of traffic in Ramban said that the National Highway remained open but the traffic movement remained slow due to the breakdown of a few heavy vehicles, single lane carriageway at Dalwass, Mehad – Cafeteria and Panthyal Nachlana Shalgari and poor road surface conditions at many places between Nashri-Banihal sectors.

They said despite slow traffic movement hundreds of light medium and heavy vehicles had crossed the Nashri-Banihal sector for their respective destinations without any interruption till late Wednesday evening.

They said heavy load carriers are heading towards Kashmir and Jammu in a regulated manner.

On the other hand drivers and commuters complained that they remained stuck in traffic congestion at narrow carriageways at various places between Ramban and Banihal.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir traffic department issued a fresh advisory for Thursday stating that subject to fair weather and road clearance light medium vehicles would be allowed to ply on either side.

They said heavy vehicles would be allowed to move towards Kashmir from Jakhani, Udhampur after assessing the road and traffic situation on Thursday.

However, they again advised passenger vehicle operators and commuters not to undertake journeys on National Highway -44 during night hours due to apprehensions of shooting tones between Ramban and Banihal and asked for carrying out journeys during the day time only.
