Srinagar admin orders fencing of bridges to prevent suicide attempts

Srinagar Aug 01: The administration in Srinagar on Thursday ordered fencing of several bridges across the city to prevent the suicide attempts of people who try to end their life by jumping into river Jhelum.

Lately, there has been an increase in the suicide attempts in the city, with the most recent being yesterday when a young woman killed herself by jumping into Jhelum from Srinagar’s Habba kadal.

   

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr Bilal mohi-Ud-Din said that the process for fencing the sides of several bridges has commenced while the amount has been earmarked too.

The DC said that the DPR regarding the fencing has been formulated and Rs 19-lakh each has been earmarked for fencing the sides of Nawa Kadal and Fateh Kadal bridges.

Similarly, the DPR of Rs 9-lakh has been framed for Gaw Kadal bridge and Rs 29 lakh for Safakadal bridge.

While fencing of the Noor Jahan Bridge over river Jhelum at Qamarwari would be completed at a cost of Rs 11 lakh to avoid any further mishap or any suicide incident, reported news agency GNS.
