Police launch crackdown on drug peddlers

Srinagar, Aug 30: Ahead of the Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday approved appointment of new police chiefs (SSPs) for the districts of Srinagar, Baramulla, and Kupwara even as it appointed a new SP for Handwara.

(ECI) in an official order said, “I am directed to refer to you letter No. HOME-PG/338/2023-03-HOME, Dated 29.08.2024, on the subject cited furnishing therewith a panel of officers for posting as SP/SSP, Baramulla, Kupwara, Handwara and Srinagar.”

   

It said, Imtiyaz Hussain Mir (JKPS:1999) is approved as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for Srinagar, while Mohd Zaid (JKPS:2001) as SSP Baramulla. For Kupwara it said, it has approved Ghulam Jeelani (JKPS:2001).

Further, it approved Ifroze Ahmad (JKPS:2004) as Superintendent of Police, Handwara.

“The Commission also approved the proposal of posting of incumbent officers as proposed therein,” the ECI said.

“A compliance report to the above be furnished to the Commission urgently,” it said.
