Tarigami criticises BJP’s ‘divisive campaign’

Kulgam, May 19: Senior CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Sunday said that Bhartiya Janta Party’s (BJP’s) divisive campaign is not in the interest of the country.

Talking to reporters on the side-lines of a party convention in Bogam village of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, he said that the BJP is basing its campaign on communal polarization.

“Targeting minorities is not in the interest of country”, he said.  Tarigami said that secular democracy is the identity of India and that undermining it serves only those who work against the national interests. He said that it appears that BJP has nothing to offer to the electorate so it is again resorting to communal politics.

“Prime Minister should be mindful of his status and should refrain from targeting the communities,”Tarigami said.  He said that seeking votes by polarising the communities is not palatable to people. Criticising the government for failing to prevent the inflation and rising unemployment, Tarigami said that the government’s report is dismal. “The unemployment and price rise have set new records and it is the report card of this government”, he said. Tarigami said that reposing faith in this government again would be both against the interests of the people and the country.

Deploring the recent attacks in Anantnag and Shopian areas, which claimed the life of a former Sarpanch and injured a tourist couple, Targimai said that he appeals to the people of all shades of opinion to strongly condemn such acts of violence. Tarigmai appealed to the youth to participate in the electoral process and cast their ballots. “All those who are listed as voters must cast their votes to elect their representatives,” he said.

Tarigami upbraided the BJP government for scrapping the special constitutional position of Jammu and Kashmir and peddling a false narrative about Naya Kashmir.

“It was that Naya Kashmir which freed people from the bonded labor and gave the peasants ownership of land,” he said.
