Ramban, May 31: The scheduled two-way traffic movement of passenger light, medium and heavy vehicles was disrupted due to a delay in clearance of Srinagar bound (up) convoy of heavy vehicles on Friday, traffic authorities said.
They said due to the breakdown of a few heavy vehicles in the Ramsu sector, poor road surface condition besides 90-degree curves near tunnel, T5, Panthyal and on foot movement of nomad families with their herds of livestock, Srinagar bound heavy vehicles, which were released from Udhampur on Thursday remained stuck in traffic congestion.
The traffic movement remained extremely slow due to this reason and scheduled traffic was stopped at Nagrota, Jammu, Jakhani, Udhampur and Qazigund Kashmir till the Kashmir bound heavy vehicles were cleared from Ramban-Banihal sector on Friday morning.
They said after clearing valley-bound heavy vehicles scheduled two-way traffic of light medium vehicles was allowed to move on either side of National Highway on Friday at noon.
Commuters complain that due to delays in releasing scheduled traffic, they faced inconvenience in journeys. They said they were stopped at different locations on the National Highway till Friday noon.
However, traffic authorities said traffic movement remained slow due to single-lane and poor road surface conditions at many places especially between the Ramban and Banihal sectors of National Highway.
Traffic authorities have advised commuters and vehicle operators to follow lane discipline.
The poor road surface condition of the National Highway passing through Ramban district light-medium vehicles are being allowed to either side whereas heavy vehicles are being allowed to ply on alternate days between the two capital cities Jammu and Srinagar.
