Assembly Elections: Govt announces poll dates as paid holidays in J&K

Srinagar, Aug 23: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday announced the election dates – September 18, 15, and October 1st – on which assembly polls are scheduled to be held as paid holidays in the Union Territory.

In an order,  the government stated that in terms of Section 135-B of the Representation of People Act, 1951, the poll dates be observed as paid holidays to every person employed in any business, trade, industrial undertaking or any other establishment and entitled to vote in his/her respective assembly constituencies.

   

It said that no deduction or abatement of the wages of any such person shall be made on account of a holiday having been granted in accordance with sub-section (1).

It further said that if an employer contravenes the provisions of sub-section (1) or sub-section (2), then such employer should be penalised with a fine of Rs 100.

Assembly election in J&K are scheduled to be held in three phases, with first phase being held on September 18, second on September 25 and third phase on October 1. The results will be declared on October 4.
