Total knee replacement surgeries commence at WMI

Srinagar, Nov 6: In a significant move to improve health care services and bringing sophisticated orthopaedic surgeries to the door steps of the local population Well Care Medical Institute(WMI) located at 90 Feet Road started the total knee replacement (TKR) surgeries.

According to a press release, threee TKR procedures were done on two patients. Post operative period was uneventful and both the patients were discharged in a healthy condition.

   

TKR is a surgical procedure in which portions of the bones that form the knee joint are removed and replaced with artificial implants to restore the alignment and function of the knee. The surgical procedure usually takes one to two hours. It is performed primarily to relieve knee pain and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis.

The surgery was performed by the orthopaedic surgeon Dr Havind Tandon along with noted orthopaedician Dr Sheikh Imran and Dr Feroz as anaesthetist assisted by senior theatre technologist Samiullah, theatre and anesthesia technicians Akhlaq, Junaid, Masrat. Resident doctors and paramedical staff took the pre and post operative care of the patients in a highly professional way. Tajamul Islam,administrator and spokesperson of WMI said, “The surgeries were done at affordable cost and high quality imported implants were used”.
