Tremors continue to rock BJP as prominent leader from Jammu resigns

Government accepts resignation of senior JKAS officer

Jammu, Aug 30: Notwithstanding the claims of party leadership that the situation was well under control, tremors continued to rock Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over ticket-distribution for ensuing J&K Assembly polls.

Resentment is brewing in the form of protests; spree of resignations and threats by its “committed leaders to enter poll fray against official candidates.”

The latest entry in the list of party rebels is one of its prominent faces from Jammu – Chander Mohan Sharma, who along with few other leaders, announced his resignation from the party. His woe too remained same as found echo in the rebellion by other party leaders in the past few days i.e., “unfair distribution of tickets and precedence to paratroopers over loyal, dedicated party workers.”

He accused the J&K leadership of misleading the central leadership about the ground situation in the UT and presenting “improper proposals” vis-a-vis names of candidates.

Sharma, in a press conference, stated, “I’ve remained associated with each and every activity and movement of the party as its dedicated foot-soldier, since 1970. I’ve tendered my resignation against the party’s decision about the Jammu East constituency. I’ll wait for a day or two and if the decision remains the same, I’ll take a call respecting my workers’ aspirations.”

Later, when question about his resignation was posed to the Union Minister for Coal and Mines G K Reddy in a presser, he reiterated that the party would talk to its all disgruntled leaders and workers and address their concerns.

Notably, the BJP has remained engaged in pacifying its rebel-leaders, peeved over criterion of ticket-distribution for J&K assembly elections, since it has released its first list of candidates.

The protests were related to Jammu-North, Akhnoor (SC) and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi assembly segments.
