6461 pilgrims embark on pilgrimage from Jammu

Jammu, July 1: Setting new record, fourth batch of 6461 pilgrims Monday embarked on pilgrimage to holy shrine of Shri Amarnath nestled in South Kashmir Himalaya from Jammu base camp at Bhagwati Nagar.

Surpassing yesterday’s record, this was the highest number of pilgrims leaving from Jammu base camp since the flagging off of the first batch by the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on June 28.

   

Officials informed that this morning, 6461 pilgrims comprising 4831 males and 1223 females besides children, Sadhus and Sadhvis left for twin routes to pilgrimage in 265 vehicles.

“Of these pilgrims, 2321 pilgrims, comprising 1628 males, 525 females, 7 children, 145 sadhus and 16 sadhvis left for Baltal route in 118 vehicles. 4140 pilgrims, including 3203 males, 698 females, 7 children, 187 sadhus and 45 sadhvis embarked on pilgrimage through Pahalgam route from Jammu in 147 vehicles early this morning,” officials said.
