Bear mauls woman in Banihal

Banihal, Aug 25: A woman was injured seriously after she was attacked by a black bear in Banihal area of Ramban district on Sunday.

The injured woman was rushed to sub district hospital Banihal from where she was referred to GMC Anantnag for specialised treatment.

   

She was identified as Zainab Begum, wife of Muhammad Amin, resident of Kakarpora Chapnari in sub division Banihal.

Incharge wildlife control room Banihal Najamudin Nayak told GK that the woman was picking beans from a Maize field near her house when a black bear attacked her. He said locals shifted her to Banihal hospital in critical condition.

He said around half a dozen black bears were reportedly roaming in the area for last several days and a wildlife team was sent to the area to drive them out and prevent further attacks.
